Panning shot guide with an original 3D camera study

See how a camera pan differs from tracking, inspect an original fixed-position 3D study and plan horizontal aim with a free camera-path CSV exporter.

FREE SHOT PATH PLANNER

Plan a fixed-position camera pan

Create a known path in scene units and export one row per frame. This is a planning CSV, not footage analysis, a camera solve or a native editor project. Camera and target heights are both fixed at 1.

Original native 3D pan frames with camera position fixed and aim following the proxy

A good panning shot gives the viewer a reason to look across the scene. It might follow a person, reveal a listener or connect an action with a clue. Decide what the viewer should discover and where the camera should finish before asking for a faster or more dramatic movement.

What is a panning shot

In film and video, a pan rotates the camera horizontally from a fixed position. Adobe's pan-shot guide describes its uses for following action and revealing information. A tilt changes vertical aim; a camera translation moves the viewpoint through space.

The distinction helps diagnose a generated take. If a request for a fixed-position pan produces a camera that drifts sideways, the resulting perspective may tell a different story. It can still look attractive, but it does not meet the same blocking requirement.

Silent native 3D pan with camera position fixed and aim following the proxy

The camera remains at X = 0, Y = -6 and Z = 1. A rigid geometric subject moves from X = -1.5 to X = 1.5 while the camera aims at its point at Z = 1. The horizontal right-positive aim changes from about -14.04 to 14.04 degrees. The room, foreground posts, floor lines and background markers remain fixed.

This four-second original Blender render uses 96 saved frames at 24 fps and a 32 mm perspective lens with 36 mm sensor width. It is a deliberately simple camera study with no walking animation or AI generation. It does not simulate a handheld operator, physical tripod or production-quality character performance.

Pan vs tracking shot

Compare the tracking-shot study, which uses the same scene and subject movement. In that version the camera moves sideways with the subject. In this version the camera position stays fixed and its aim changes. Watch how the foreground posts relate to the wall markers as each shot progresses.

Download the known scene-path CSV to inspect both versions. The original source script, manifest and reproduction notes describe the authored setup. These coordinates are ground truth for our own scene, not measurements recovered from another creator's footage.

Plan the pan with a known moving target

The free planner above follows a target moving linearly along X while holding the camera position fixed. Set the target's start and end, distance from the camera, duration and frame rate. The top-down diagram shows the changing aim and fixed camera point. Export the CSV to keep the plan with your shot notes.

The output includes one row per saved frame, with relative time, target and camera coordinates and a horizontal aim bearing. At the default four seconds and 24 fps there are 96 rows. The last sample occurs at frame 95, followed by its final display interval. This avoids inventing an extra frame at four seconds.

The planner does not draw a complete camera frustum or test lens coverage. An aim path can be mathematically valid while a real composition crops the subject or hits an obstruction. Inspect the actual frame and leave room for the action, captions and the final delivery crop.

Use a pan to follow action in an AI scene

From one fixed camera position, pan horizontally to follow the fictional courier crossing the archive room. Keep the courier and single teal case readable. Preserve the doorway and wall markers as fixed parts of the room. Finish on the courier's stopping position without adding a sideways camera move or an unexplained zoom.

This is an original untested direction, not a guaranteed model control. Build and approve the character and room reference in Clout AI Cinema or Image and Video, then adapt it to the operation's supported inputs and duration. Review the returned clip for direction, subject size, background stability and the intended ending.

Panning video and panning photography are different jobs

Still-photography panning often aims to keep a moving subject relatively readable while giving the background motion blur during an exposure. A video pan is a continuous change of framing. Our study has no motion blur, so it should not be used as a demonstration of photographic shutter technique.

For a fast transition, inspect the separate whip pan guide if it fits your edit. A slow observational pan and a fast blurred transition have different acceptance criteria. Choose the movement that helps the viewer understand the scene.

Review the complete move

Watch the beginning, middle and finish at normal speed. Check whether the subject slips out of the intended region, whether static objects bend or disappear and whether the camera appears to translate despite the fixed-position brief. Pause only after the playback check to inspect a specific failure.

Record the source reference, prompt, selected operation, returned file and rejection timestamps. A pleasing first frame does not establish a successful pan. The accepted shot should preserve the action and reveal the intended information through its final frame.

Questions, answered

Frequently asked questions

What is a panning shot

A panning shot rotates the camera horizontally from a fixed position, often to follow action or reveal another part of a scene.

Does a pan move the camera through the room

A pure pan changes camera aim from a fixed position. Translating through the room is a separate movement that can be combined with rotation.

Does this planner analyze my video

No. It calculates a known target and aim path from your inputs and exports a planning CSV.

Is the study an example of panning photography blur

No. It is a native 3D video camera study without motion blur, not a still-photography shutter demonstration.

Can a prompt guarantee a fixed-position pan

No. Treat the direction as a brief and inspect the actual returned video for viewpoint drift, framing and background stability.
