Higgsfield CLI guide for Hermes and terminal video workflows

Set up the Higgsfield CLI for Hermes or a coding agent, verify account access, plan a first video and diagnose setup, reference and job-status problems.

Higgsfield Independent workflow guide by Clout

Start with the official Higgsfield CLI repository for the client, and Nous Research’s Hermes documentation for the agent. The CLI is the connection to creative tools; Hermes coordinates the work you request.

What the Higgsfield CLI adds to an agent

Higgsfield’s CLI integration guide distinguishes terminal workflows from the chat-oriented MCP connection. The CLI uses the Higgsfield account and plan credits. API keys belong to a separate developer product, and web Unlimited access does not establish unlimited CLI generation.

The advantage for a file-based project is continuity between the brief, references and returned asset. Keep them in an organized project folder. A conversation can explain a scene, while the files record exactly which character, product and previous take belong to that scene.

This guide covers setup and production planning, not an installed or account-tested integration. The commands below come from the linked official documentation. Check the current command help for the version you install.

Install the CLI and companion skills

The official client README documents npm installation and browser sign-in. Higgsfield’s Hermes setup article adds the companion skills step:

npm install -g @higgsfield/cli
higgsfield auth login
npx skills add higgsfield-ai/skills

Run setup in the environment that will execute the work. If your agent runs on a remote machine or in a container, a CLI installed only on your laptop does not prove it is available there. Establish where commands run before troubleshooting a model or prompt.

Complete sign-in using the provider’s normal browser flow. Keep credentials out of the creative brief and reference folder. A useful handoff to a teammate records the client version and setup stage, not an authentication token.

Verify setup before requesting a render

The official CLI command surface includes version information, account status, model inspection and job lookup. Start with a read-only check:

higgsfield version
higgsfield account status
higgsfield model list

Read the returned account information in your own environment. Confirm that it is the account intended to fund the project. If the account lookup fails, resolve that stage before asking an agent to create media. An assistant saying “ready” without a returned lookup is not the same evidence.

Next, inspect command help for the operation you plan to use. For example, higgsfield generate cost --help explains the installed client’s quote interface, while higgsfield generate list --help explains job lookup options. A cost lookup is a different operation from submitting a generation.

Use Hermes for a small complete creative task

Higgsfield’s Hermes article describes the agent using the CLI and skills to select tools, submit work and retrieve results. It requires a ready Hermes environment and a paid Higgsfield account with credits. Hermes is the coordinator; it is not itself the video generation model.

Start with a task whose result you can judge quickly. A sailboat passing a headland is easier to review when the camera stays steady and the shot contains one action. Combining a location change, character dialogue, drone orbit and product transformation makes the first diagnostic less useful.

Plan one short landscape video of my original sailboat passing a rocky headland in soft afternoon light. Use the approved boat image for its identity. Keep one steady camera and one continuous action. Before generating, identify the input file, choose a supported model, confirm its duration and aspect-ratio options, and show the credit quote. Wait for my approval before submission.

This original prompt separates the proposed brief from the paid action. Replace the subject with your own asset and define one detail you will inspect, such as the sail markings or hull shape. A written approval request is a working instruction, not proof of a hard billing limit.

Download the first-video brief and run record. It is a local planning template with blank account and job fields. Do not put secrets in it.

Keep references available to the actual runtime

Use stable filenames and record the role of each reference. A character portrait supplies identity; a motion reference supplies performance; a scene reference supplies visual direction. Ask the agent to identify those roles before selecting a generation operation.

A path on your laptop may be meaningless to an agent running elsewhere. Confirm that the chosen file exists in the execution environment or has a provider-confirmed asset identifier. Never assume an image visible in a chat has automatically become the intended model input.

For a series, keep accepted references apart from rejected attempts. Use filenames such as boat-identity-approved, headland-direction-v1 and shot-01-accepted. Add a short note explaining the accepted view. This gives a later revision something concrete to preserve.

Separate a timeout from a failed job

If a command stops waiting, inspect the returned job identifier and account history before resubmitting. The local waiting process and the provider’s generation job are separate things. A missing visible result does not tell you whether the remote job is queued, running, finished or failed.

Record the selected settings, submission time and identifier with each attempt. A retry is justified by the state you observe, not by impatience with a blank preview. When the provider reports a finished asset, inspect the actual file before marking the shot accepted.

Troubleshoot the stage that failed

SymptomInspectUseful evidence for the next step
Command is unavailableInstallation and runtime environmentClient version or exact command-not-found error
Sign-in did not finishThe provider login and CLI responseThe failed stage and error text without credentials
Unknown model or settingCurrent catalog and parameter helpThe unsupported input or option
A reference is missingLocal file availability and provider inputsThe intended filename and its role
No final video is visibleThe existing job and account historyJob identifier and current status

Change one part of the setup at a time. Reinstalling the client, changing a model and replacing the source image in the same attempt destroys the comparison with the previous failure. Keep the simplest request that reproduces the issue.

Choose CLI, MCP or a studio interface

Use the CLI when production is part of an agent’s file-based task. Use the Higgsfield MCP guide for the chat connector. Follow the Katana guide for its documented Claude reference-edit workflow; a general CLI installation alone does not establish that every named chat workflow is available in Hermes.

If you prefer a visual creator workflow, explore Clout’s AI influencer studio. Clout also describes its own connected tools on the MCP and plugin page. These are separate products and accounts; choose the environment around your actual project.

Questions, answered

Frequently asked questions

What is the Higgsfield CLI

It is Higgsfield’s terminal client for invoking creative tools, inspecting available operations and retrieving results. Coding agents can use it as part of a file-based production workflow.

Can Hermes Agent generate videos with Higgsfield

Higgsfield documents a Hermes workflow using its CLI and companion skills. The agent needs access to that setup in its own execution environment and an account with generation credits.

Does the CLI require a Higgsfield API key

The documented account-based CLI login does not require an API key. Higgsfield distinguishes it from its separate developer API product.

Does Higgsfield Unlimited cover CLI jobs

The CLI integration guide says web Unlimited access does not apply to CLI generation. Check the current account and operation quote before submitting work.

Should I rerun a generation after a timeout

Inspect the existing job and account history first. A waiting timeout does not establish that the remote generation failed; a second submission may create another job.
