Convert a Short to MP3 with the free tool
- Select your original MP4, MOV or WebM file. If you only have a YouTube link, download your own eligible Short from YouTube Studio first.
- Click Convert to MP3. The first use loads an audio engine from jsDelivr, about 31 MB. Your uploaded file stays on your device.
- Preview the audio, then download the complete 192 kbps MP3. Keep the page open while conversion runs.
The upload limit is 50 MB and 3 minutes. Videos without an audio track cannot produce MP3. Conversion preserves the existing mix; it does not separate voice from music, restore missing sound or improve a compressed source. This tool does not download YouTube URLs. Use the original video or your eligible Studio download.
Recover the clean audio from your project
If you edited the Short yourself, reopen the original project and export the narration, music, or final mix separately. This avoids YouTube compression and lets you remove music that is licensed only for a specific platform. Keep WAV or another lossless copy for future edits; create MP3 when you need a smaller delivery file.
When you only have the uploaded Short
- In YouTube Studio, open Content and find your upload.
- Choose Download from its menu if the video is eligible.
- Click Choose your video in the converter above and select the downloaded MP4.
- Listen for missing music, clipping, or compression before reuse.
YouTube documents MP4 downloads for uploads you made, with several restrictions. See creator download instructions. It also says the YouTube app does not offer a direct MP3 or audio-file download. See offline download FAQs. Offline viewing through Premium is not an editable audio export.
Use the right file in the next faceless video
For speech, a clean original recording is easier to subtitle and mix. For music, verify that the license allows the new platform and use, particularly for ads. If the goal is to turn a longer video into a Short, YouTube's own Clips and Shorts tools may be simpler than downloading and re-uploading the video.
